Finding a new vacuum cleaner can be tricky business. There are so many features to choose between anymore. There are also many types of vacuums sporting those features. Some models are designed to do things better than others like tackle pet hair for instance or work on multiple types of flooring.
For example, most buyers of canister vacuums are interested in cleaning bare floors. Luckily that’s where that type of vacuum cleaner shines.
Upright vacuum cleaners on the other hand, do great with carpet. So if you have wall-to-wall carpet to clean, you’ll likely want to limit yourself to the upright section of the vacuum cleaner aisle.
Don’t be taken in by the claims of what HEPA filters can do for you. Any more there are models with regular filtration that capture the dust and keep it captured just as well.
The best tip that you will never see revealed in typical vacuum cleaner reviews is to take any vacuum you have your eye on for a test drive. Even if that means going to a local retailer and then buying online. You want to put the vacuum through its paces if at all possible. How does the handle feel in your hand? Are you able to push and pull it with equal ease? How does it turn and maneuver? How heavy is it? Can you see yourself lugging this thing up the stairs? Answers to questions like that and put you on the right track.
Certainly buying a new vacuum is not for the faint hearted. But it doesn’t have to be Mission Impossible either.
